A very spacious villa with wonderful views from all the reception rooms
All bedrooms have a door to outside
The Villa was built on a magnificent plot overlooking open countryside and with a long sweeping drive. Much of the surrounding land belongs to 'Timonera' and the gardens are quite magnificent, with Almond trees, Olive trees, figs, grapevines, shady pines and Bougainvillea, amongst many others.
Timonera is spacious with wonderful views from all the reception rooms which have high vaulted ceilings.
The Villa has recently been extensively refurbished, with new floors, new windows, new kitchen, new bathroom and second ensuite, new shower/utility block outside and fabulous new shady area in the pool enclosure. A new addition, too, is the central heating system enabling Timonera to be let out of season. The gardens have been restored to their former glory by Sven Christensen (who writes every month for the 'Roqueta').
The accommodation entrance is through an arch and up a curving external staircase to the front door (on the first floor). This leads into a large sitting room with an open fireplace. There is a TV and video and CD/tape player. There is a kitchen off this room and a breakfast balcony with lovely views. Internal stairs lead down to the sleeping accommodation. From the sitting room large doors lead into a second sitting room, or sun lounge with dining area. This is a wonderful room with large arched windows on 3 sides and stunning views. From here there is a door with steps leading down to the enclosed courtyard.
Downstairs there are four double bedrooms - two with double beds and two with twin beds. There is a lovely family bathroom and the master bedroom, with its king-sized bed, has an en-suite shower room as does one of the twin rooms. The master bedroom and the twin room next to it both have doors opening onto a large, sunny, enclosed courtyard. The courtyard has an atmospheric feel with lime-stone flagged floor and natural stone walls. There is a large table and chairs, further rustic, Menorcan tiled bench-seating under the grape vine, built-in BBQ, bougainvillea and almond trees.
In the corner of the courtyard is a pretty, tiled utility room with a washing machine, sink and fridge.
The pool is really big and is apparently the biggest one at S'Albufera! There is terracing all around the swimming pool, now with new shaded area and a shower room with sink and toilet as well as hot and cold running water for the shower - a really excellent idea!
The gardens consist of many different areas - all separated from each other by paths, doors and archways - some with views and others enclosed, some sunny and others shady. The pool enclosure can be completely closed off from the dining courtyard where the BBQ is.
Location
The S'Albufera lake is the last fresh water 'stop over' for birds migrating between Europe and Africa and is the main reason that Menorca was chosen to be designated a protected biosphere. It is now a protected wild life sanctuary noted for its wealth of bird life.
Timonera is approached over a private drive winding through its beautiful landscaped grounds to large gravelled parking area. The country house stands on top of the hill with commanding views over the surrounding countryside towards the sea in one direction and Monte Torro in the other. Monte Torro is the highest point of Menorca and has a wonderful monastery which is well worth a visit.
The villa is less than 5 minutes drive to Es Grau with its lovely beach, small shops, bars (one of which is on the beach under the pine trees) and a restaurant with a wooden terrace built over the water. It s also only 10 minutes to the harbour at Mahon, 15 minutes to the airport and 15 minutes from Es Castell with its marvellous Restaurants built into fishermen's caves.
